![]() It was complete BS and the "rubber" looked more like tar from the road. I took it to the dealer and had my entire drivetrain warranty voided because they found rubber in the wheelwell. I went through this with a car, my diff was cracked because the bolts had came loose. ![]() If you take a bike in with aftermarket parts you are at risk for being denied. There are cases where mods are overlooked and parts are replaced but that doesn't mean that will happen for everyone. If something I've done causes a failure I know who I'm going to expect to pay for the repairs myself. Personally, when I buy a new motorcycle I know exactly what the warranty does and does not cover. The one thing that's for sure, if they find evidence of a failure caused by an aftermarket accessory I don't care what laws you quote or angles you take they won't be paying for the repair. So, in a lot of ways it really comes down to dumb luck. There are a lot of ways to determine the cause of a failure, swapping out your ECU before taking the bike in doesn't guarantee that they won't find enough evidence to deny your claim. On a major engine failure most manufacturers will send a technician out to inspect, retrieve failed components and take samples of things like oil, coolant, etc. Yes they can tell your ECU has been reflashed, but that's just the start. Toss a connecting rod out the bottom of your motor though and there will be a lot more questions from both the dealer and the manufacturer. Chances are good if it's a small failure with minimal parts and labor it will probably sail through. The question is whether they catch it or not, and that really comes down to the dealer. The straight answer is yes, it will void your warranty if the modification is what caused the failure.
